Bergen Resource Centre for International Development recently received a unique book collection on the Sudan. The book collection belongs to the Sudanese businessman Mahmoud Salih, and BRC will keep the collection for research purposes until it is returned to the Sudan. The collection contains about 2000 volumes of literature on the Sudan written in European languages. Some of the books are from the 18th century, while some future acquisitions has not yet been written. Together with the Sudan-related collections of CMI and the University of Bergen, the Mahmoud Salih Collection constitutes one of the largest and most comprehensive collections on the Sudan.
The catalogue of the collection is continuously updated, as new books are still being added.
As a result of the digitalizing project at the acquisition department at the University of Bergen Library, large and increasing parts of the collection has been digitalized, and can be found in full-text at Bergen open research archive (Bora).
