Willingness to work in rural areas: Unravelling health worker job choice in Ethiopia

To attract health workers to rural areas of low income countries is crucial in order to research poor populations with basic health services. Economist Pieter Serneels will present a cohort study of Ethiopian health workers which aims to identify which factors determine their choice of urban vs rural job locations.

Pieter Serneels is a Senior Lecturer at the University of East Anglia, UK. He is an economist with a focus on service delivery, poverty, health and employment in low income countries.

Lars Nyre, redaktør i Norsk medietidsskrift, havna i mediestorm på forsommaren då han rådde forskarar til å halda avstand til journalistar. Forsking er ein saktegåande aktivitet som står i eit nært forhold sine empiriske og teoretiske kjelder, medan mediene si formidling er rask aktivitet som står i eit indirekte og overfladisk forhold til forskingas føremål. Her vert det stadige omsetjingsproblem – men det finst andre offentlege kretsløp som kan dyrkast i staden for (eller i tillegg til) det journalistiske kretsløpet.
